The Minister of Employment and Labor Commendation and an incentive of KRW 100 million were given to the county government, and the funds will be invested into the locally tailored job creation program.
The award winners at the aforementioned award ceremony are chosen based on the announcement of the local job creation targets and the measures implemented to attain the targets, and this is to promote awareness of the efforts made by local government agencies to create jobs and the results of such efforts. A total of 17 metropolitan city governments and 226 local governments are evaluated by the Evaluation Committee through a two-step process.
A comprehensive evaluation is carried out with respect to the establishment of infrastructure for job creation, the willpower of the head of the local government, the appropriateness of the job creation measures, the level of creativity and effectiveness, and the efforts made to improve the quality of jobs created. The fact that Yesan County was awarded the Top Excellence Prize at this national award ceremony is quite significant, as it is a recognition of the efforts it has made in the past few years.
Yesan County received a high score for a number of factors: ◇ efforts to secure a sufficient budget for creating jobs and the willpower of the head of the local government shown by his efforts to keep the election promise to create jobs; ◇ selection of excellent companies with win-win relationships with the region for the purpose of improving the working environment; ◇ revitalizing the social economy and increasing jobs for youth; ◇ attracting robust companies to create some 800 jobs at 36 companies; ◇ investing funds to directly create 3,336 jobs in 197 businesses; ◇ reinforcing the cultural infrastructure and improving the living environment for youth through the Small Cinema, increase in local festivals, construction of Happy Housing, etc.; ◇ tours of small- and medium-sized enterprises for youth; ◇ multi-faceted efforts to create jobs incl. nurturing young farmers. Through these efforts, Yesan recorded an 8.1% increase in youth employment rate and 5.4% increase in female employment rate, despite the population decline and an outflow of youth population.
County Governor Hwang Seon-bong said, “The Top Excellence Prize was received as a result of the efforts made together by the local residents, enterprises, and entities related to job creation. We will reinforce private-government cooperation through the project on creating four industrial complexes and the tourist projects such as Yedangho Suspension Bridge and Naepo Bobusang (Peddlers) and pursue sustainable job creation in order for Yesan to emerge as a dynamic industrial tourist city.”
