|Title||Yesan, a forerunner in creating an ideal environment to raise children|
- Highest childbirth grant in the province at KRW 30 million -
Yesan County is endeavoring to create an ideal environment for people to raise children and to overcome the issue of low birth rate by raising the childbirth grant amount and relaxing the criteria for receiving the childbirth congratulatory basket.
The Yesan-gun Ordinance on Support for Population Growth Policy Implementation was revised this past May to increase the childbirth grant for the firstborn from KRW 500,000 to KRW 2,000,000 and to KRW 4,000,000 for the second-born, KRW 6,000,000 for the third-born, KRW 10,000,000 for the fourth-born, and KRW 30,000,000 for the fifth-born, starting with children born on or after July 1, 2019.
One of the eligibility criteria for the childbirth grant is for the parents to have been a registered resident of Yesan for at least 6 months after the birth of the child. Those who wish to apply for the grant need to fill out and submit an application form for integrated childbirth service processing at an eup/myeon administrative welfare center.
Yesan County also remodeled an idle space inside the Naepo Branch Office of the Public Health Center to create “Child & Mom Café,” where pregnant women and new parents can relax and share childcare information.
The programs for pregnant women and newborns/babies that were carried out only at public health centers are now also available at the Naepo Branch Office of the Public Health Center to make them more accessible to those who could not attend due to the distance.
Other support programs are being carried out for pregnant women and infants. For instance, financial assistance is provided to pay for the postpartum care assistant services to ensure fast recovery after childbirth for mothers and to help them care for their newborns. Other programs and forms of assistance include the childbirth congratulatory basket program, pre- and postpartum health management support program, financial assistance for infertility treatment (traditional Korean medicine and modern medicine), high-risk pregnancy and premature babies, Nutrition Plus Program, etc.
A representative of the public health center said, “We will dedicate ourselves to providing a wide variety of support and assistance in relation to pregnancy, childbirth and childcare to turn Yesan into an ideal place to give birth to and raise children.”
