|Title||Yesan County Employs Broad-Area Disease Control Equipment to Stop the Spread of ASF|
- Large-scale disease control with the use of all available resources -
African swine fever (ASF) is spreading rapidly across the northern Gyeonggi-do Province. A suspected case was reported in Hongseong, Chungcheong-do Province located close to Yesan, but it fortunately turned to be a false alarm. However, just to be safe, Yesan has begun implementing large-scale infectious disease control measures using all available resources in cooperation with the private sector.
The county government has mobilized two epidemic control vehicles in its possession and six joint pest control vehicles, and supplied pig farms with a total of 1,000kg of a disinfectant agent. Starting on the 26th, five units of broad-area disease control equipment operated by Deulnyeok Management and the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation were supplied to contribute to the disease control efforts.
The broad-area disease control equipment has a spray distance of up to 150m and can spray up to 4,000L at a given time. It can cover 30ha, on average, a day and can be used in areas that are difficult to access such as the deepest parts of farms and remote areas.
Yesan County plans to assign each equipment to 2 to 3 eup/myeon and perform disease control activities for two weeks. There are also plans to mobilize agricultural drones if necessary, based on the results of monitoring the spread of ASF with the relevant authorities.
A county official said, “A suspected case was reported in Hongseong, but fortunately, the test results came back negative. Despite this, there are still concerns of an epidemic. We will do our best to control the situation and protect Yesan.”
There are around 210,000 pigs currently being raised at 94 farms in Yesan, and in order to maintain the county’s status as a “clean livestock region,” the county government plans to apply stringent control measures.
